welcoming our cute puppy to our family
We got a puppy!! I’ve wanted a dog to call my own for so long and the timing was now perfect. I grew up with dogs in my family (my mom has two dogs, Casper and Caesar) and we had a dog prior to them named Precious, a Pomeranian. Dogs have been around our family for as long as I can remember. Something about having a dog in the home adds an additional source of laughter and love, along with a lot of discipline and patience.
My husband and I have been in our home for almost two years now and we felt it was the right time to bring home a sweet pup. I found a reputable breeder a few hours out of town and we made the drive to pick up our sweet Zara.
The biggest advice I’d share here is to make sure you find a reputable breeder who is readily available and can share videos and pictures, along with doggy cam footage, if available. There are so many scammers out there and I don’t want you to have disappointments during what should be a joyful moment.
Zara came home with us at 10 weeks and she’s now 4 months old and thriving. It’s definitely not easy raising a puppy with a busy schedule but we’ve wanted our puppy for so long that the time commitment has been worth it. Yes, you will have to wake up at wee hours of the night to take your puppy to pee. Yes, you will have to spend time with your puppy to ensure that they are well and feel safe at home with you. And yes, you will have to give attention to your pup multiple times a day. But again, it is all worth it. Think of them as a family member and the love you pour into them will flow easily. A great dog owner is one that nurtures their companion.
Preparation is key when bringing home a puppy for the first time. Trust me, I watched a good amount of YouTube puppy videos from things to buy and how to start training a puppy from the very first night. Every video proved to be helpful.
Zara is the sweetest pup! She is so calm and yet playful. She rarely barks and has learned to potty outdoors. Go girl! She loves people of all ages and when we are on a walk or at the park, that tail will definitely start wagging. She wants to say hello to literally everyone! And with the beauty she is, she gets attention and cutie-coos everywhere we go. Looking forward to all of the adventures ahead with our little pup while watching her grow.
