HELLO FROM YEMTEM
Hey there, friends! I’m Yemisi and I’m so happy that you stumbled across my blog! If you hang around this blog for any amount of time, you will discover that I really, really love lists! I thought it was only fitting, then, for me to introduce myself in list format and tell you five things that you probably didn’t know about me:
MY BLOG NAME
When I started my blog, I had no idea what to call it or even where to start. I figured that if I was going to create a blog, I might as well create a brand–my personal brand. You may be wondering where the name YemTem comes from. Alright, so my name is Yemisi Temitope and it was only fitting that I incorporated my name into my brand. Thankfully, my two names both started with Yem and Tem and boom, it birthed YemTem. I love it and use it across all my handles.
I CHANGE MY HAIR MORE OFTEN THAN I CAN COUNT
If you’re like me and love switching up your looks then hi five! Having the freedom to change up my hairstyles whenever I feel like it is somewhat therapeutic. I love experimenting with short, long, straight, and curly styles. I also don’t shy away from trying out colors such as blonde, burgundy, and brunette! I’m natural and travel quite often for works so I love being able to braid down my hair and throw on a good wig to hold me for the week.
I AUDITIONED FOR A TENNIS CLUB BEFORE EVER PLAYING THE SPORT
I know, crazy right? I had shared my interest in the sport with my dad at the time and he supported my request and bought me a tennis racket. Practice was a few days later and if I remember correctly, I probably only hit one or two of the many the coach shot. I honestly was so embarrassed after auditions that I decided to not return the second day. Yes, I know. I gave up just like that.
To make matters worse, I ran into the coach a few days later and he asked why I never returned. I told him I felt I was terrible on the court. He shared a life lesson with me that day — one I will never forget. He said he wanted to put me on the team just because of my determination to show up to play the sport. He told me to not give up so easily on myself in the future and that has stuck with me ever since. I still have the racket still till this day and I would love the opportunity to truly learn the sport.
I LIVED IN HOUSTON FOR A YEAR
As much as I loved living in Houston, Atlanta is home. I do miss HTX but home is truly where the heart is. It was in Houston where I lived my independent life as an adult. I had my first apartment to myself and decorated it to my liking (glam of course) and had the freedom to do anything that I so pleased. I loved trying the many restaurants in Houston and man, there was an abundance of them to try daily if you could withstand it! Some of the best dishes I’ve had are in the heart of Houston. Can you say yummm?! Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church is also in Houston and was my favorite church to attend while there. I can’t forget to mention that I met my husband in Houston so you see why I will forever love H-Town!
I LOVEEEEE TO COOK
Yes!! One of my favorite hobbies to cook up a new dish or perfect a favorite dish! I’d have to say that my favorite dishes are typically those that stem from Africa, Italy, and Thailand. It’s not enough to just eat food, but I believe one should also learn to re-create a dish they loved at a restaurant. Not only does the science of cooking excite me, but it is also the final presentation and plating of the food that is so satisfying. Bonus points for executing the taste to perfection! I’m closing my eyes right now and salivating over my next meal – I dont even know what it will be! Haha!
